• Take the second foot in your hands and look at the sole, keeping the foot erect by supporting the heel with your hand. Any hard skin patches or colour changes should be noted, as they could indicate reflex sites—for example, hard skin over the ball of the foot indicates lung congestion.
• Then, using a small amount of oil, rub your palms together and massage it into your foot to soften, but do not overuse it.
• Begin by moving your thumb up and down the inside bridge of your foot in small caterpillar motions to activate the spinal reflex.
The nerves that run along the inside of the foot correspond to the back nerves. The lower spine is at the heel, the centre is in the middle, and the big toe rises towards the neck area; it's fairly evident where back tension is present.
